Happy New Year to all our clients and friends - we wish you all a very successful 2012.

As we all settle back into work this week, ask yourself these questions: Are you positively buzzing with enthusiasm for what 2012 might bring? Are you feeling focused, full of energy and direction?

If the answer is 'no', maybe you should consider how we at Labyrinth have set our objectives for energising our business. We are all familiar with the concept of setting SMART goals and objectives but at the Learning Labyrinth we always say 'Get SMARTER'.  Why not launch yourself into the New Year by revising what you want out of life? Some FACTS about Goal Setting

You know the saying 'what gets measured gets done', because, without any measure how do you know if there is any improvement?

A study of top achievers found that whilst all had experienced success in their chosen field, the top 2% had written down their goals in life. The message is if you want to raise the bar -get goal setting and write them down.

So how do you 'Get SMARTER'?

Let us explain how expanding on this approach can give you and your team a real boost and take performance to another level this year. As a people manager for many years, most of the organisations I have worked for have had appraisal and development systems underpinned by the setting of SMART objectives:

Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. You may use a slightly different acronym in your organisation.

At Labyrinth we set goals for 2012 that in addition to being SMART are also SMARTER:

Exciting and Rewarding

The goals must be 'Exciting' - the attitude must be 'go for it'! Think the unthinkable. Be inspired!

And Rewarding? How can getting what you want out of life not be! 

It is said that Motivation is linked to the achievement of goals.



Here is a list of some of our objectives that we have targeted to be complete by June 2012 (Time-bound) that will increase our business turnover (Relevent).

These include:

  • Undertaking a client survey to reconnect with clients old and new, to explore their training needs for 2012 onwards
  • Launching a new website that clearly focuses on what we offer to improve skills for Managers
  • Building a program of Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Open Courses that we will run in Brighton from June 2012 - to include Coaching and Leadership
  • Running a minimum of four 'Link-Up and Learn' evening learning seminars open to all our delegates and clients (starting on March 15th)
  • Promoting Belbin profiling and Forum Learning as two specific programs which we believe to be some of the most beneficial training that Labyrinth offers.

The Power of Linked-In Training & Networking Event

To derive the full benefits of both face-to-face networking and on-line networking you should be regularly and consistently participating at both. If you want to discover how to do this more successfully, please join us at our forthcoming training event in Brighton on January 18th 2012.



The day is divided into two, with “Getting Started” in the morning and “Advanced Linked-In” after lunch. All participants are invited to join the networking lunch. The event and training are “hands on” and a fun way to scale your marketing reach both on-line and in person, all in one day!
